Greetings from the Founder
of the Center for Cultural and Existential Psychology
"If I am not for myself, who will be for me?
If I am only for myself, what am I?” (Hillel)

I am a representative of the Soviet culture, in which it was accepted to treat the newborn inhumanely from birth: early separation of the newborn from the mother already in the maternity ward (reunion only for breastfeeding); provision of a short leave for women who have given birth; the existence of children deprivation institutions due to the criminal-legal assessment of life without labour (nursery and other institutions in which children are kept from 8 hours a day or continuously 40 hours a week because being unemployed was considered as a crime).

I am a representative of the Soviet culture, in which there were a widespread repression of diversity and individuality, which are the most important prerequisites for an authentic existence based on personal freedom and responsibility.

I am a representative of a traumatized culture in which being-oneself based on cultural diversity was the basis for criminal liability, and in contrast the individual was subordinated to the collective.

I am a representative of a traumatized culture that has undergone a forced termination of the free, primordial, steppe worldview for political and party reasons. As much as I want to distance myself and state that “the population I work with is historically and still experiencing growing cultural threats: they continue to experience the traumatic consequences of the Soviet legacy, with the loss of millions of people”, however, this will be a lie. I am myself a representative of a population that experiences unconscious fear and anxiety associated with its ethnicity and culture. This is expressed in every way: it is difficult for us to speak Kazakh, we are afraid of any cultural and ethnic traditions due to their many years of Soviet interpretation, we confuse the Soviet heritage and Kazakh appeal, we rarely open the roads of Freedom for research and dissemination of the steppe worldview, etc.

Thus, I am a representative of a culturally and collectively traumatized population; however, at the same time, a great support in my life is the words of Frankl who said "We were the "children" of our past, but we must be the "fathers" of our future." The Center for Cultural and Existential Psychology is the result of this insight.

I am glad to welcome you, dear reader, in our space and I hope that my personal professional experience, as well as the experience gained by my colleagues, will be useful for you. On this web-site you can get acquainted with our thoughts, inner experiences regarding the undiscovered Kazakh steppe psychology, existential psychology, sociocultural psychology, child psychology and the theory and practice of psychological trauma, women's and gender psychology and fatherhood psychology. I hope you can find answers to existential questions in your life.

Sincerely,
Nurgul Moldabaikyzy
